Bistro ‘33 Manager Oscar Lacson and Painter/Maintenance assistant Dave Rendek have been recognized with 2023 Honoring Excellence awards from LeadingAge Illinois. LeadingAge is one of the largest, most respected senior provider associations serving Illinois. The well-deserved awards were presented at the annual LeadingAge Conference held March 6-7, at the Schaumburg Convention Center.

“We are very proud that Oscar and Dave were presented with these awards,” said CEO Terri Bowen. “Both have shown great dedication to their positions and their commitment to KBH has made a major difference for our residents.”

Oscar was selected for the Heart and Hands Award – presented to an individual who embraces person-centered care and service on a regular basis. Oscar, a 12-year employee, was recognized for the exceptional relationships he has built with residents, staff, families, and visitors while  responding to their culinary needs and values. As an outstanding, innovative Food Service professional, Oscar goes above and beyond all duties to create the best Bistro dining experience possible.

An avid antiques collector, Oscar often displays historic pieces from his vast collection within the Bistro. He also creates beautiful seasonal and theme displays that become conversation pieces for all to enjoy. He is well known for his stunning fruit sculptures that brighten any occasion. Oscar has also served as a featured guest speaker to share his culinary skills and knowledge.

Oscar believes in a personalized approach for Bistro customers to enhance the dining experience. For many who visit the Bistro often, there’s a comfortable feeling because Oscar has made the café warm and welcoming.

Dave Rendek received the Strive and Thrive Award for demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to excellence. The award recognizes Dave for his vision, initiative, and creative problem-solving. A 23-year employee with KBH, Dave graciously and consistently shares his time, interest, and engaging spirit with residents, coworkers, and family members. He makes our community shine with his excellent painting and ensures everyone is happy with colors and selections.

Outside of work, Dave is an avid golfer who shares great stories and experiences with residents and staff as a common bond. For years, Dave has devoted untold hours in maintaining both our mini-putting area and bocce ball court. He has worked hard to make sure residents are happy and linked to their recreational interests. For those who have a longer walk to reach our recreation areas, especially while our campus is under construction, Dave drives a golf cart to pick them up and take them back to their homes or cars. He has always prioritized the safety and well-being of our residents.

Dave works closely with many departments and our Decorating team to make sure our building reflects clean, color-coordinated, updated rooms and common areas. He brings a positive attitude to all meetings and discussions with residents and staff. He is always willing to go that extra mile in order to make people happy with the final results. Dave is described as being friendly, approachable, cooperative, talented, and idea-focused.

Both Oscar and Dave received recognition certificates from LeadingAge IL that were presented during a ceremony at the Conference.
