Board members, senior management, local business and construction professionals gathered Sept. 17 for an official groundbreaking ceremony signaling the start of a long-awaited residential project plus two major renovations at King-Bruwaert House (KBH) in Burr Ridge. Pictured at the ceremony were (left to right): Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso, KBH Chief Executive Officer Terri Bowen, Chief Financial Officer Adrian Goetz, and Paul Stech, Senior Director of Buildings and Grounds.

Also participating in the ceremony (second photo-left to right) were: KBH Board member Doug Cleveland, Kyle Wetzel, President of the Willowbrook-Burr Ridge Chamber of Commerce, Jake Pepper of Pepper Construction, and Andy Beltz, KBH Senior Director of Marketing and External Relations.

One of the biggest projects ever undertaken by KBH in its 88-year history will be The Gardens of King-Bruwaert House, an exciting new development to be built on the 35-acre campus located at 6101 S. County Line Road in Burr Ridge. The 44 independent living apartment homes will bring spacious luxury residences to the community with the largest floor plan offering over 2,300 square feet. The Gardens will feature classic Georgian architecture that will blend gracefully into a wooded, picturesque setting. The new apartment residences are just steps away from a walking path, two ponds, gardens, fenced-in dog park and a tributary of Flagg Creek.

Additional amenities for The Gardens’ residents will include a new fitness center with a spa, game room, several dining options, a lounge with bar, library, theater, community garden, as well as a chapel. An enclosed glass walkway connects The Gardens to the existing Manor home, providing temperature-controlled access to a full range of services, activities, dining and events.

Currently, 22 of the 44 residences are reserved and the first 31 apartments reserved will be included in a Charter Member Benefit Program that includes a freeze on the second year’s monthly maintenance fee; a $2,000 bonus credit that can be used toward unit upgrades; a guarantee of the lowest entry fee; and a preferred parking space location. The Gardens’ homes are expected to be completed in 2023.

Included in the campus expansion plan will be the construction of two 14-bed skilled nursing wings that will tentatively be started next year. This will include state-of-the-art healthcare changes that will accommodate spacious rooms, private bathrooms, amenities and 24-hour care and services. Starting this fall will be renovations to the second floor of the Manor Home that will bring modern, expanded residential suites to those seeking assisted living care and services.

“We are truly excited about our independent living expansion plus the changes to our assisted living and skilled nursing neighborhoods,” said CEO Terri Bowen, who has been leading KBH operations since 2015. “For years we have been discussing these projects and now we are moving forward with excellent opportunities for so many people who have been interested in being part of our wonderful community.”
